St. Michael’s School has always been about educating the whole person, and that extends beyond academics. Functioning as part of a community and giving back to others is a fundamental skill. The school is happy to help young learners embrace this through actionable initiatives and projects, like its recent #BeKindDoKind Week.
Starting on the 10th and ending on Valentine’s Day, the Monday through Friday run had a fun way students could show kindness every day of the week. Each kindness act had no barriers to participation and could be easily replicated in the future. Each day also had a fun activity suggestion to go along with the kindness act.
On Monday, students were encouraged to dress up in St. Mike’s swag, hold the door open for someone, and give someone a high five for being awesome. Tuesday suggested that friends dress up as twins and for the kindness act, do something nice and take note of the ripple effect. Crazy for kindness was the theme on Wednesday where crazy hats, socks, and shirts were encouraged. Students were also asked to tell someone why they were important. Thursday was a day to wear a team jersey, help clean up, and issue compliments. Friday was Valentine’s Day, commemorated by wearing red or pink. The kindness acts on this last day were to put someone before oneself, say nice things, and treat people with respect.
Little acts of kindness go a very long way and inspire others to act with kindness too. This was an important lesson for the students, one they will take beyond #BeKindDoKind.
