The municipal election is coming up on October 20. In the Town of Bow Island, Dave Harrison is seeking a third term as a councillor.

Affable and experienced in local politics, Harrison has always been active in the community.

“I sit on lots of different boards,” he explains, “including Lions Club and Blues at the Bow. I’m also a volunteer firefighter. Giving back is something I do naturally – I don’t like to sit still!”

He doesn’t have a particular agenda, instead he has an overriding passion for the well-being of the town and its residents. As the utility supervisor at the County of Forty Mile No. 8, he knows he has unique insight into many issues where he can be an effective voice on council.

He is very proud of the Town’s progress and cites budget meetings as an important aspect of life as a council member.

“We have been fortunate to cut property taxes and manage them effectively over the past seven years. Additionally, growth of the town has been very good. There have been challenges, notably, the provincial cut for police funding. That has resulted in over $100K a year in extra police costs to cover.”

Before his first term, he didn’t realize how challenging waste management could be saying, “it was a real eye opener!” As a councillor, he remains committed to facing those challenges head on.

“One of the important things to consider is the landfill,” he notes. “We have basically run out of space and there are high costs and environmental regulations to manage as we discuss solutions.”

His message for voters is this: “Let’s stay the course! We have not increased taxes. The mill rate has been steady for seven years. Growth is doing well. Things are looking positive for the Town of Bow Island!”

For the Town of Bow Island’s municipal election, nomination day is Monday, September 22, 2025. There is one vacancy for mayor and six vacancies for councillors. Nomination packages are available at https://bowisland.com/elections-2025.
