Local training opportunities begin in Bow Island

Forty Mile Community Resource Centre

The Forty Mile Community Resource Centre, in partnership with Safety Buzz Campus and Wheels of Opportunity, recently held the first of many local safety and skills training courses in Bow Island.

The first session focused on fire extinguisher safety and gave participants the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on knowledge that can be used in the workplace, on the farm, and in everyday situations. Bringing this type of training locally helps reduce travel barriers and makes it easier for community members to access valuable certifications close to home.

The local training is part of a larger effort through the Wheels of Opportunity program, which supports individuals working in, or looking to enter, Alberta’s agriculture industry. Through the program, eligible registered participants may be able to access funded Class 3 driver training, air brakes training, industry-recognized safety certifications, and other job-related skills at no cost.

These opportunities can help participants build confidence, improve workplace safety, strengthen employment skills, and open doors to future career pathways, including the possibility of continuing toward a Class 1 licence.

Courses are also open to community members who would like to participate for a fee. Upcoming training opportunities may include fall protection, skid steer training, forklift training, and other safety and skills-based courses.
