Public consultation needed on new Highway and Traffic Safety Bylaw

County of Forty Mile

The County Municipal Enforcement Department is proposing a Highway and Traffic Safety Bylaw which consolidates a number of existing bylaws and establishes regulations with the following effects on the public.

1. All non-traffic use of public rights-of-way will require a permit or license of occupation including temporary fencing for grazing, ditch haying/baling, semi-permanent grazing/farming (the old leasing program), Texas gates, parades, and events, etc.

2. ATV use on rural roads will be authorized for only agricultural use with conditions

3. Weight limits and truck routes within hamlets will be established

4. Prohibition on the use of engine retarder brakes within hamlets will be prohibited

5. Property owners will be responsible for the maintenance of sidewalks, boulevards, and alleys

6. Regulations on parking are defined

7. Obstruction to pedestrians and traffic are defined

8. Tires with spikes or damaging lugs will be prohibited
