The first two farmers’ markets at the Golden Age Centre in Bow Island have been hugely successful, according to vendors who have been selling their wares each Friday afternoon.
Peter Dyck, from Prairie Oasis Farms, said business has been great as people stopped by his stand to purchase fresh vegetables.
“Business has been wonderful,” said Dyck.
Peter and Robert Waldner, from the Shamrock Hutterite Colony are regular vendors at the Farmers’ Market and said the first two have been great.
“These have been two of the best turnouts I have seen, they have been very good,” said Robert, who added they were selling carrots, lettuce, peas, radishes, cabbage, along with other in-season vegetables and homemade buns.
Besides buying fresh, local vegetables, baked goods, and crafts, the farmers’ market also is a place to sit and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with friends on a Friday afternoon.
“People get together for coffee, cake, and gossip,” said Frank Vanden Broek.
Approximately 200 people attended on Friday, something Thelma Boyd was very happy to see.
“We work so hard to keep it going, so this is very nice to see,” she said.
