Burdett firefighter Serge Lengeweg is returning to a position that he has familiarity with, having served in the role two years ago for a year term.
The member of 10 years on the Burdett department was appointed last week as the new fire chief, replacing Dave Harrison who resigned due to personal reasons.
“A bigger responsibility. But should be manageable,” he said of returning to fire chief duties.
In his first stint, he learned that he needed to keep fellow firefighters up to date on their training and plans to continue that process.
“(To) keep practicing things and getting them to show up to practices,” he said.
Lengeweg said “ (With)All of our volunteers in the Burdett department, it’s a (well ran) department.”
“It’s been good. I’ve enjoyed working with the guys and helping out the community in anyway.”
The main thing he has learned in his last 10 years is that you have to be well prepared for any event.
Nick Sereda has been promoted to deputy chief, which was previously held by Lengeweg.
