These items were taken from the October 24, 1957 issue of the Bow Island Graphic Newspaper
There is a half page advertisement in this issue from the Southern Alberta Co-Operative Association Ltd. A message to the residents of Bow Island and District: We are happy to announce the decision of our Board of Directors to open a branch store in Bow Island. This decision is the result of a careful study of all the towns in Southern Alberta and Bow Island was selected as the town with the greatest potential. We feel that we are not entirely unknown to the Bow Island people. We have for many years rendered service to the livestock trade of your area. Our merchandise has come into your district thru the good services of our representative, E.C. McNeely. We feel that co-operation has been sold in your area through the efforts of our Board member from your area, J.C. Hodgson. Our new branch will occupy the premises formerly known as the Kjeldgaard Building on Main Street. We intend to give you a modern farm supply and hardware store. We plead for your ready acceptance of our services as we bring to you your requirements on the farm at city prices. We will be carrying a full line of paint, feeds, salt, hardware, fertilizer, insecticides, herbicides, oil, twine, etc. You may become a member of our Association by merely signing an application form – there is no fee. As a member you become eligible for patronage dividends on your purchases, as they are declared, and have a part in formulating policy and electing officers. We invite you to become a member as you come in to see our store. Grant G. Wooley, General Manager. Note: This store operated for many years in this location with James S. Roth as Manager – and is now the location of Bow Island Auto-Mart.

– There are thirteen television sets in town at the present time. The viewing is exceptionally clear since Channel Six came into operation. County viewers also report good reception. Congratulations go out to CHAT-TV for bringing the pleasure of TV to so many homes.
– An old timer of Etzikom, Cocker Spaniel “Laddie” Cooper was struck and instantly killed last week. He will be greatly missed by all motorists as he always claimed the right-of-way. Even so he was a friendly loveable dog.

– Mr. and Mrs. George Smith of Evesham, Saskatchewan were recent visitors here with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tunstall. Miss Marlene Smith came with her parents and will remain here as the new receptionist at Dr. Carr’s office replacing Mrs. Viola Calder who has had that position for some months.
– The Zion Lutheran Church Board have purchased the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Schindel and will use it for a manse when the time comes for a resident minister here. It has been leased for rent at the end of December.
That’s all for this week. This has been another Stroll Down Memory Lane with Old Fred Mellen
