Re: Book Launch
The Doc Nikaido Story – “Rebel with a Cause” – by Brett Loney, what a story. Bow Island’s ambassador, F. J. “Fred” Mellen, your insight on Doc, introduction by Robin Dann and Brett Loney and his lovely wife, Janet, were great.
To have known Doc was to have understood and loved him. Fred, Robin, and Brett you held a captive audience in Bow Island, as did Brett, Robin, Coreen Thacker, and Bev Fraser a few nights later in Lethbridge.
Jeanette Loney, you have every reason to be proud of your family, three superstars in one family – one, mayor of Fort Mac; another, two-time Stanley Cup hockey superstar; and Brett, renowned writer and journalist. Just think what might have happened if there would have been a few girls mixed in there, what might have taken place or happened. History will show that Pinto MacBean was not the only great thing to come out of Bow Island.
For sure, the book has become an instant collectible item, hard to find, harder to acquire, almost like the Edsel automobile.
