Again, many pundits with credibility have addressed these issues. I would refer the Indigenous questions to Bruce Pardy, law professor and YouTube commentator.
We have many questions demanded by federalists. Many are worthy, but most irrelevant to our choice. Within the independence faction, no one has the authority to answer them but that is the fundamental difference between us. The federalists accept the Laurentian elite imposing their answers. For a century, decisions by the National Energy Board, federal government, and even the Supreme Court have weakened us. I think it is naïve to think the interests of Albertans were merely ignored. I believe the authority should reside within Alberta, made by all Albertans, for Albertans.
The best way to describe an independent Alberta is to look around. Canada is changing fast, NetZ, mass immigration, new taxes, debt…. indeed, most of the fall questions are about Alberta taking control of that change. Independence would merely stop the rapid change. It would then take a couple of years before anyone would have a mandate for a new direction.
I value these discussions as part of our process. In my Alberta everyone has a say. I do not imagine that any of my neighbours would deny the opportunity to have this discussion. And a year from now, we will still be neighbours.
