Special transportation

Since 1994, there has been a service for residents with special transportation needs. Cypress County pays a Medicine Hat based taxi service 50 percent of fares for approved users and the user is then required to pay the other 50 percent upon acquisition of the service. In the Oct. 7 council meeting for Cypress County, they had a request for service that didn’t fit the current taxi program. The individual wanted either someone with them or they had to know the person of the vehicle driving them to work. They found that a good way to make sure the council knew what the program was all about, would be to make it into a policy and expand the policy to fit the specific request and future requests.

Individuals who require special transportation must now ride in a taxi and complete the taxi service where they pay 50 percent of the fee up front, and then the taxi company builds off the other 50 percent.

Council adopted Policy ADM 30 special transportation as presented, which includes this special transportation request. Residents with special needs must apply in writing and follow a few other procedures stated in the Cypress County office.
