The Medicine Hat Regional Airport hosted a fabulous Flight, Fun and Family Day on Sunday. Thousands flocked to the airport to view the demonstrations of aerial skill in the sky above, look over various aircraft and pay tribute to our men and women in uniform who patrol our skies and keep us safe.
The star attraction of the day was undoubtedly the legendary Snowbirds who put on a fabulous display of precision flying as they circled and re-circled the crowd below, showing off some of their more famous routines for an appreciative audience.
Another star attraction was the amazing aerial stunt skills of former Snowbird Capt. Brent Handy, (retired). His bright red biplane dazzled with death defying rolls, turns and stols.
And of course everyone who came out enjoyed getting up close to the good variety of aircraft on display, and being able to ask questions of the pilots. There were especially long line-ups to see both the HALO medical helicopter and the CF-18 brought down from Cold Lake for the occasion. Capt. Denis “Cheech” Beaulieu very patiently answered questions and showed off the cock-pit to his aircraft.
It was a great day for aviation in southeast Alberta. The skies were clear, the day was sunny and everyone who came out had a fantastic time.
