On Thursday December 17, 2015, at approximately 7:00 p.m., members of the Redcliff RCMP detachment, Redcliff Integrated Traffic Unit, Cypress County and Medicine Hat fire departments and Medicine Hat EMS responded to a two vehicle head on collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 at Dunmore.
The investigation revealed a Chrysler Intrepid was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 at the west end of Dunmore when it collided head on with a Dodge Journey traveling westbound.
All four occupants of the Journey were taken to hospital for treatment. One of the occupants, a seven day old baby, was not hurt. One occupant was taken to Calgary with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Intrepid were taken to Medicine Hat hospital. The passenger was taken to Calgary with serious, non life threatening injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against the driver of the Chrysler Intrepid. The occupants of both vehicles are all from the Medicine Hat area.
The westbound lane from 7 Street in Dunmore to Medicine Hat of Highway 1 was closed until about midnight on Thursday while investigators examined the scene.
