The Forty Mile County Commentator/Cypress Courier earned three awards at the Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association convention, held recently in Edmonton.
The Commentator learned on Monday morning that it has earned third place for overall score in Circulation Class D (3,500-6,499), third place for Best Front Page in the same circulation class, and second place for Best Editorial Page in the 2015 BNC General Excellence awards. Entries were selected from the weeks June 14-20 and October 25-31.
“We are extremely proud to be recognized by the AWNA for our efforts. It is a true honour,” said Commentator/Courier editor, Jamie Rieger. “But, we do not do this by ourselves. It is because of the great people we get to work with in our rural communities who strive to make their towns better places to live, who give us great stories to write and photo opportunities, that we have been able to achieve these awards.”
For overall score, newspapers are judged on Local Feature, Community News, Presentation, Production Quality, Photography, Front Page, Editorial and Op-ed, Sports, and Advertising design and content.
