Terrie Matz has been thinking about running for Bow Island town council for quite some time. For her, it is a way for her to give back to the community that she says, has been good to her.
“This is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I can read financial statements, do budgeting, and make business decisions,” said Matz. “I just want this town to be the best town we can be.”
Matz who has owned Bow Island Greenhouses Greenhouses for the past 20 years, has volunteered her time in numerous ways over the years.
“ I have been President of the Bow Island Agricultural Society and Chairperson of the Bow Island Tourism Committee for over 10 years. I’m really proud of some the initiatives we’ve accomplished, a new VIC centre, a successful 100th anniversary, and greater co-ordination of the events around town through our event marker,” she said. “In the past I’ve been very active with the Bow Island Chamber of Commerce, winning Business of the Year in 2003 and Business Volunteer of the Year in 2007.
Matz believes her entrepreneurial background would be a benefit to town council.
“My business and accounting experience should be an asset as a Councillor,” she said. “I recognize that roads and our water and sewer will be an on-going issue. Bow Island has changed a lot in the 20 years since I moved back with my family. We’ve increased our population, the West sub division has been developed, our downtown looks much more vibrant. I want to help steer Bow Island’s future to maintain our small town ideals and goals.”
