The Town of Bow Island Council had their first meeting of the new year and covered off a short amount of topics on Jan. 8.
Operating budget 2018
Municipalities are required to have an operating budget as per the Municipal Government Act. The town was required to have an MGA in place by Dec. 31, 2017. However, the operating budget was not approved at the Dec. 11 meeting. If there was not an approved budget in place there would not be any paid accounts or payroll done. The town completed Draft #1 of the 208 budget but since Bow Island took over the recycling facility there needs to be more time for a budget.
Council made the decision to adopt the 2017 operating budget as the interim 2018 operating budget until calculations and figures are completed.
The operating budget is expected to be out in March.
New member for the Forty Mile SDAB
Coun. Bernice DeLeenheer was appointed the new member for the Forth Mile Subdivision Development and Appeal Board (SDAB). DeLeenheer takes over for Coun. Dave Harridan who is not allowed to be on SDAB because he is a County of Forty Mile employee.
Snow blower
Town council had moved a motion to replace the snow blower from 2011 by purchasing a new 84” machine from Rocky Mountain Equipment for a price tag of $14,000 before GST.
Shortfall covered
The town will cover the fireman fees for December 2017 in the amount of $245.
