The Bow Island Fire Department is at the 23 volunteer member number they were looking for this year after town council officially appointed John Dyck, Josh Hiebert and Nancy Klassen to the volunteer staff at their May 27 regular council meeting.
While the trio have been on the department for a month now, the new members originally approached the town fire department to become involved.
“We’re always looking for more recruits,” said Bow Island fire chief Kelly Byam.
“Especially volunteer people working during the day. So we’re always trying to recruit and keep our numbers up.”
Byam says with the additions, it gives the fire department more personnel to work with when there is an emergency call.
All three of the new recruits have no previous experience but are keen to get their feet wet.
“They’re energetic and willing to learn,” he said.
“They did an application form up and we did some background checks and they were approved. We do put them through extensive training.”
