Redcliff Seniors can take advantage of a free meal for all of June thanks to the United Way of Southeastern Alberta funding the town received for its Meals on Wheels program.
The funding was made possible through the United Way because of a federal government announcement in April of $9 million that was to be focused towards vulnerable seniors.
“Because of this funding, the Town of Redcliff and Redcliff FCSS has been able to provide seniors with temporary free meals through our Meals on Wheels program,” said Carla Spampinato, Redcliff FCSS coordinator.
“Meals are provided by Trukkers and delivered by volunteer drivers. Meals normally cost the client $7, and the town subsidizes the remaining cost of each meal.”
Spampinato said through this program, there will be approximately 400 meals provided so seniors can stay in their homes in their efforts to stay safe and healthy during the COVID-19.
Seniors can sign up for the meals’ program in June by calling (403) 548-3232.
