The Thunderbuck in the Badlands bull-riding event will be returning to Medicine Hat in September under a new division.
After a successful PBR (Professional Bull Riding) event back in 2019 in the Gas City, “the toughest sport on dirt,” will return to the city to bring fans, and viewers around the globe fiercier competition with the event now competing under the Monster Energy Tour.
The event was previously a Touring Pro Division stop and was produced in partnership with Lorelle Halderman and the Blazing Brand Marketing and Production, at the Canalta Centre.
It will now give bull riders the chance to earn twice as many points towards both the national and world standings as a part of the PBR Monster Energy Tour.
“The PBR Monster Energy Tour regularly features Canada’s best riders alongside some of the league’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from across the nation. Fans will witness exhilarating eight-second rides and wrecks throughout the action-packed event as the PBR’s courageous bull-riding athletes face off against their 2,000-pound opponents,” said the release.
“With the event once again scheduled near the end of the 2020 season, tensions will be high as riders look for coveted points used to qualify for both the PBR World Finals and PBR Canada Finals.”
The 2019 event saw Dakota Buttar of Kindersley, Sask., take home the top spot with a league-best fifth win by the bull rider on the season.
It was only Buttar’s third event on home soil for the season and he a flawless 2-for-2 to surge to victory and earned himself 320 crucial national points.
The victory surged him from 12th in the standings to fifth.
With the event once again scheduled near the end of the 2020 season, tensions will be high as riders look for coveted points used to qualify for both the PBR World Finals and PBR Canada Finals.
Thus far in 2020, the bull riding competition in Canada has remained stiff.
With four events held across all levels of competition to date, Buttar has won three, including both Monster Energy Tour events, en route to claiming the No. 1 ranking in the national standings.
Thunderbuck in the Badlands will be on Sept. 26, starting at 7 p.m., at the Canalta Centre.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchases through ticketmaster.ca.
All future PBR Canada events are subject to change, planned in accordance with directives issued by relevant government and health authorities given the evolving regulations during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
