The Rural Municipalities of Alberta announced the results of a January survey on Feb. 18.
Results showed that member municipalities are owed $245 million in property taxes from struggling oil and gas companies.
The County of Forty Mile are currently owed over $2.7 million in unpaid taxes, going back to 2020.
The county confirmed there is one company that has entered an agreement for a payment plan.
The $245 million is based on the response rate from all of RMA’s 69 members.
This numbers continues a multi-year trend of this issue worsening as in 2020 the survey showed $173 million and an $81 million decrease in 2019
