An annual Foremost Rodeo weekend kick-off event will return in 2021.

The Foremost and District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their Chili Cook-off on July 23 at the Family Centre (formerly the Legion Hall) after a one- year hiatus due to COVID.

“We ask for local community people and businesses to cook up their pot of chili to see who of course makes the hottest or  the mildest in the category,” said Corrina Roth-Beacome, 40 Mile Regional FCSS executive director, who are a Chamber member.

“And we have community judges that judge then and make a decision on the winners. Then we opened it up for the community to come and have chili on a bun or a hot dog.”

Chili will have to be pre-cooked before arriving at the Family Centre.

The event does create community spirit around rodeo time.

“Again, a kick off to rodeo,” she said.

“So, certainly wanting to support those activities and chili and rodeo seem to go together. It’s been an annual event that’s been going on well over 15 years now and just brings community together to have a lunch and support a great cause.”

The community is invited for a chili lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on July 23.

Lunch cost is $5 for either a bowl of chili or hot dog or $8 for a chili dog.

Funds from the event are used to support the Chamber Youth Employment Program.

‘“We’re limited as a Chamber as to what you can do for fundraising in communities,” said Roth-Beacome.

“So, (this) is one way they generate funds to help pay for the summer student position.”

Businesses or community members have until July 19 to register their chili by calling (403) 867-3077.
