Bow Island RCMP acting detachment commander Cpl. Alan Rivard cleared rumours going around on social media about the Bow Island and Foremost  detachment being closed,no policing in the area and police commuting from Redcliff to respond to a call.

“I just want to make sure the public is aware that is not the case,” said Rivard.

“I just want to get out to the public that the Bow Island detachment is currently staffed with RCMP members and we are in the community anywhere from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. in the morning.”

Rivard confirmed the Foremost detachment has closed and will be sold in the near future.

He believes the rumour originated from the Bow Island Detachment wanting to relocate, which is true.

“We’re looking at another suitable location in Bow Island,” said Rivard.

The other option is to renovate the current detachment.

“In no way are we leaving the community and we’re here to stay,” he said.

The administrative side is only open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to staff shortages.

“If the public needs any front counter assistance such as criminal record checks or anything that is of non-emergency, can come in and do their business on Tuesday and Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” he said

However, that schedule will change to Monday to Friday once the new hire arrives in a couple months.

The Bow Island police station was closed for a six -month period due to mold and rodent infestation before reopening in April.

Officers were commuting from Redcliff during the office closure.

“We ensured that there was member here even though the detachment was closed,” he said.
