The Cypress County Emergency Services are pleased to bring home the newest four-wheeled member of the family.

A surplus engine from the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) the 2014 Airwolf Fire engine recently became surplus on the base due to the purchase of a new unit that better suits their training needs.

As such, BATUS inquired if the County would be interested in acquiring the unit at no additional cost.

It was remarked that the “free vehicle” would cost the County approximately $15,000 to rebrand the truck and supply it with all necessary equipment.

Emergency Services plans to use the vehicle in the Boxsprings Fleet, where it is well suited for use with its chemical extinguisher and capacity of five firefighters. It was specifically noted that it was equipped with the best tool for solar farm firefighting.

There is no planned replacement for the unit at this time, though it is anticipated to last until approximately 2034. It will be replacing one of the vehicles in the area, which will find a new home in the Schuler station, replacing an older unit which will be decommissioned and sent to auction.

Council acknowledges and is grateful to BATUS for the donation.
