November 7 was a “big day” for Mayor Gordon Reynolds, who noted that he could not recall when he was last asked to cut a ribbon for a grand opening; it was likewise a big day for the continued growth of Bow Island, with the grand opening of the new Shell Gas Station.

Town mascot Pinto MacBean also made an appearance in his small statue form, alongside Reynolds and CAO Dave Matz as they arrived for the celebration.

The station, located next to the also recently-opened Tim Hortons and clearly visible from Highway 3, will be a boon to those travelling the highway whether Bow Island is their final destination or merely a pitstop on the way along the corridor.

Many of Bow Island’s businesses don’t do grand openings, remarked Reynolds during the opening, they’re simply open for business one day. But the gas station made a point of fanfare with balloons and a ribbon cutting, as well as a free lunch for visitors, reduced rates on gas for the entire opening day, and door prizes for those who came to celebrate the new business with them.
