Prairie Rose Public Schools held their monthly Public Board meeting on November 28, eager to catch up on happenings in the division before the holiday season hits in earnest.
Assistant Superintendent Boyd Craven shared the results from the 2023-2024 PAT and Diploma exams. Prairie Rose students did very well in most areas compared to the provincial results, with the divisional PAT results being higher than the acceptable level within the province in every subject.
It was noted that the diploma acceptable standard was raised to 77 per cent, and there was an overall increase in the diploma standard of excellence.
IF Cox School in Redcliff gave a presentation on their TNT, or “trying new things” program.
It was noted by Trustee Graeme Dennis how successful the Ag Connections Conference held by Cypress County was, and it was remarked that the region has good things happening in agriculture, which is intertwined with Prairie Rose’s work in agricultural education.
Nichole Neubauer and the Irvine School’s Agricultural Discovery Centre students gave a presentation at the conference, which was also noted to be well-received.
Superintendent Reagan Weeks gave a brief update on some exciting events that have taken place throughout the division, including a new robotics-based program for Prairie Rose Possibilities spearheaded by Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence winner and Ralston School teacher Jocelyn Encinas, and Instructional Coach Cammie Kannekens is attending the Google for Educators conference in Ireland, and plans for an expanded drone program.
Additionally, the division was given a clean audit for the 2022-2023 financial statements.
