Two of St. Michael’s Bow Island students have been invited to a tournament in eastern Canada.

Aidan Vantryp and Jake van Roessel, will be joining the Taber St. Mary’s Senior high basketball team in Nova Scotia for the New Waterford Coal Bowl Classic, which takes place from February 5–9.

The entire school gathered for games of 3-vs-3 basketball, trick shots, and general bright spirits as they cheered on their classmates and gave them the strength to rise to the challenge ahead of them.

The boys are both excited to be joining the Celtics for the Coal Bowl Classic, grateful for the opportunity afforded to them by both being part of the same school division.

They’ve both been playing basketball as long as they can remember, said Van Roessel, and they’re confident that the Celtics will do well against the other schools competing in the tournament. This was a sentiment echoed by their fellow students and teachers, who brought hand painted signs, glow sticks, and their loudest cheers to the St. Michael’s school gym to encourage their classmates.

Students were encouraged to wear school colours for the rally, and were treated to a long lunch hour and even blue jello in order to celebrate, matching the school colours.
