Police warn of potential security scam in Brooks area

Mounties are warning the public of a potential scam after two separate men arrived at rural properties near Brooks claiming to work for security alarm companies, but were unable to produce credentials.

The RCMP says that on March 15 a man in his mid-40s told a Duchess resident that the home’s system needed to be repaired, but was told to leave.

The following day in Lake Newell Estates, a different man in his mid-30s with longer hair approached homeowners there.

RCMP say that repair or salespeople will produce identification and typically contact local authorities when they are in an area. Anyone with suspicions should deny entry to homes, write down particulars of the visit, including vehicle description, and contact police.
