Dr. Troy McColman, a seasoned chiropractor with over 20 years of experience, has brought his expertise to Bow Island as he expands his practice. With a deep-rooted passion for sports and fitness, Dr. McColman’s journey into chiropractic care began when he obtained his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College in Iowa in 2001.

During his studies, Dr. McColman encountered Active Release Techniques (ART), a therapy that would later become a cornerstone of his practice. After experiencing its effectiveness firsthand in treating his own soft tissue injury, he was inspired to explore additional therapies that could complement chiropractic care.

The turning point came when Dr. McColman’s wife suffered a severe neck injury following a car accident. Despite undergoing surgery, she continued to experience debilitating pain and numbness. It was through the gentle and effective Cox Technique that her symptoms were alleviated after just a few treatments, significantly improving her quality of life.

Dr. McColman has a clinic in Brooks, and is happy to now be in the community of Bow Island, stating “It seems like a lovely community, just very kind.”

Now, with over two decades of practice under his belt, Dr. McColman is fully certified in Cox and ART, among other therapies such as Laser Therapy, Shockwave, Graston, and Microcurrent Therapy. His clinic specializes in treating a wide range of conditions, from disc herniations and sciatica to soft tissue injuries like plantar fasciitis and rotator cuff injuries. “With the techniques that I’ve learned through the years, I’m able to service a lot of people with a lot of different conditions,” said Dr. McColman.

One of Dr. McColman’s core beliefs is in promoting longevity through movement. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining mobility as we age, citing research that correlates mobility with overall health and well-being. “ I think as chiropractor’s, what we do is we try to promote mobility and movement,” Dr McColman stated.

Explaining the efficacy of Cox and ART, Dr. McColman highlights the extensive research backing these techniques. Cox has been shown to increase intradiscal space, relieving pressure on nerve roots and reducing pain. Similarly, ART targets specific soft tissue injuries, improving mobility and range of motion.

Despite his expertise in treating athletes, Dr. McColman emphasizes that his services are for everyone, from stay-at-home parents to individuals working in various professions. He aims to provide relief to anyone experiencing aches and pains, believing that everyone deserves to feel better. “A lot of people that go for these services are athletes, but I feel that the stay at home parent, the person who is working in the oilpatch, the truck driver, the electrician, the person who works at a desk all day (could use our services),” explained Dr. McColman. “I come from a working class family and that’s who I want to service. Of course I’ll service the kids who play sports and the athletes, but really I think that people need to feel better. So many of us have aches and pains and we just continue on. A lot of times we don’t know if there is a solution or if there is something that we can do to help ourselves, and that’s who I service.”

He emphasizes the importance of collaboration within the healthcare community, working alongside other professionals to provide comprehensive care to his patients. “I’m very big on using other people in the community as well,” stated Dr. McColman. “Whether it be the massage therapist, the physio therapist, it really takes a village to get people better. Working with the family physician. Sometimes the chiropractor is the gateway, they find something that doesn’t look quite right, and they are the ones who are going to make the suggestion to go see their M.D. and get that checked out. So I think it’s important to work as a healthcare community.”

As Dr. McColman brings his wealth of experience and dedication to a new community, residents can expect compassionate and effective care tailored to their individual needs. With his commitment to improving lives through chiropractic care, Dr. Troy McColman is set to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of the community.
