The Redcliff Fire Department is, as always, hard at work helping locals and town visitors stay safe and sound. Wade Gleisner, Fire Chief, reflects on the department’s activities during the 2024 season.
“I am pleased to report only a couple of minor fires this year so far. One was contained to the area around the range in a kitchen and there were a couple of vehicle fires.”
He goes on to note, “Motor vehicle accidents the most prevalent type of call so far this year, outside of medical calls.”
The department is excited about the new fire engine that is scheduled to arrive in November. They aren’t just sitting around waiting though! An active training schedule has kept the members up-to-date on certifications and requirements.
“The focus this year has been training,” says Chief Gleisner. “Efforts have been made in the area of NFPA 1001 certification and in Advanced First Aid/CPR to meet the Medical First Response requirements. I am also very pleased to report that the department added Medical First Response to the level of service provided to the Town of Redcliff in January of this year. Additionally, three very dedicated members, Vince Anderson, Mitchell Helland, and Ashlea Suderman have successfully resurrected the fire prevention program this year both to youth groups at the fire hall and at the schools.”
Currently, the department has 19 members, including two new firefighters. They are pleased to welcome Jessica Parsons and Jhoann Narvacan to the team.
Teamwork is done in the community not just during emergencies. The Redcliff Fire Department was involved in the Santa Claus Parade as well as Redcliff Days and several seasonal festivals.
“The department participates in the SEATS Bike Rodeo in Redcliff,” adds Chief Gleisner.
What is Gleisner’s top fire tip? He says, in support of October being fire prevention month, “This year the focus is ‘smoke alarms – make them work for you.’ Please check yours this month and replace the batteries if so equipped. Also, check the date on the detector(s) and replace them every 10 years.
