The election is over, and Redcliff’s new council is hard at work. The November 3 meeting started with budget reviews, followed by the formal adoption of the October 14 minutes.
Here are the key takeaways from October’s adopted minutes.
Council had received a presentation from C. Adams regarding the Redcliff Post Office. In response, the council directed administration to draft a letter of support for the post office, ensuring its importance is recognized at the ministerial level.
Council began laying the groundwork for next year’s budget by identifying several community-focused projects for consideration. These include:
• Planting fruit and nut-bearing trees in parks and school grounds.
• Upgrading pedestrian signage and crosswalks on Broadway Avenue.
• Enhancing the dog park with water, shelters, benches, and lighting.
• Reinstating the recording and uploading of council meetings to YouTube.
• Installing solar-powered stop signs at key intersections.
Approved was the establishment of the Southeast Alberta Economic Opportunity Advocacy Committee, adopting its terms of reference and planning to appoint an elected official to the committee.
Also approved was the property sale at 201 Saskatchewan Drive NE for $110,000, with a possession date set for October 24.
In a closed session, council approved hiring a consultant to assess and estimate costs for improving the insulation and building envelope of the Senior Centre, with a budget of $8,000, and also authorized agreements for the operation of the compost facility under its new business name, Ambipar, with a term expiring in 2026.
Following was the adoption of the October 15 Municipal Planning Commission meeting, where a key decision took place. The Town of Redcliff has approved Development Permit Application 25-DP-049 for Badlands Storage, located at 3 602 South Railway Dr. NE. The project involves the establishment of a mini storage yard, with the following conditions set by the Municipal Planning Commission (MPC):
• Compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
• Maintenance of an active business license during operations.
• Site access must adhere to the Town’s Design Guidelines, with a maximum width of 15.0 metres and a hard surface matching South Railway Drive NE.
• Separate development permits are required for all exterior signage.
• The development must be maintained to the satisfaction of the Development Authority.
• Storage of wrecked or dismantled vehicles is strictly prohibited.
At the November 3 meeting, council was asked to consider a Meals on Wheels supplier change.
The Meals on Wheels program, a food security initiative in Redcliff since 2007, provides daily meals to residents unable to cook due to health or physical limitations. Operated with the support of a local restaurant and Town volunteers, the program is undergoing enhancements to improve menu variety, consistency, and service options. Following a review, the Town has partnered with the Veiner Centre in Medicine Hat, known for its own Meals on Wheels service. The Veiner Centre offers nutritious, customizable meals, including frozen options for holidays, with Town volunteers continuing deliveries. This new arrangement, costing $10 per meal, would save the Town approximately $2,700 annually while maintaining high service standards for the 190-220 meals delivered monthly.
In other tasty news, council was delighted to learn that the Redcliff Fall Festival and chili cook-off, held on October 11, 2025, was a resounding success, drawing an estimated 1,200 attendees to Lions Park.
Organized by the FCSS/Special Events Coordinator, the event featured entertainment, activities, and the chili cook-off, which raised $5,210 for the Redcliff Youth Center through chili sales and matched donations from the Lions Club. Tully’s Mini Donuts also donated all the proceeds from their food truck that day to the Youth Center. Community feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 83 per cent of survey respondents rating the event 8/10 or higher. With strong community involvement and enthusiasm, the event is poised to grow even bigger next year. There is already excited talk about next year’s cookoff.
