The Redcliff and District Recreation Committee met April 1 to provide an update on its activities and things happening in the community.

The team has been hard at work transitioning from winter programming to a bustling spring and early summer schedule. February and March were marked by a variety of well-received events, including Family Fun Night with Valentine’s-themed activities, the Adult Night Out Self-Care Series, and Random Acts of Kindness Day.

Plans for the upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Event and Pitch-In Week, both of which promise to bring residents together in celebration and service, have been finalized. Additionally, efforts are underway to coordinate the community garden program, with outreach to participants and plot assignments nearly complete.

Spring programming, including swimming lessons, has also been launched, with details available in the Community Program Guide.

One of the standout moments of the past months was the celebration of the U11 Redcliff Grizzlies’ provincial championship win. In a heartwarming gesture, Mayor Dwight Czember and the FCSS team organized a surprise parade and presented a ceremonial “Key to the Town.” The event, which included an escort by Redcliff Fire, RCMP, and Medicine Hat Police, was a joyful occasion for players, families, and the broader community.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for another significant milestone: the Redcliff Legion’s 100th anniversary. The committee is collaborating with the Legion to ensure their centenary celebrations are memorable, with special requests and events in the works.

Redcliff’s fire service has also been active in the community, focusing on fire education and prevention in local schools. Recently, the department participated as an honour guard at the funeral of a retired Suffield Fire Chief and Canadian Forces member, demonstrating their commitment to both safety and community support.

As the weather warms, Redcliff residents can look forward to a packed calendar of events. Pitch-In Week, running from April 16 to 19, will kick off a season of activities that includes Mental Health Week, Seniors Week, and the ever-popular Summer Camp programming. Planning is also well underway for Redcliff Days and Canada Day celebrations, with final details expected at the next committee meeting.

Regular programming, such as Family Fun Nights, Adult Night Out, and community garden meet-and-greets, will continue to provide opportunities for residents to connect and engage.

The Recreation Committee’s meeting underscored the vibrancy of the Redcliff community. From championship parades to centennial celebrations, the town is buzzing with activity and optimism. As it was written in the report, “It’s shaping up to be a busy and active few months, with a good mix of events and programs aimed at keeping people engaged and connected.”

With a full slate of activities on the horizon, Redcliff residents have much to look forward to as they come together to celebrate, volunteer, and enjoy all that their community has to offer.
