Cypress County Council met on May 5 to discuss and approve several key resolutions impacting local development, community facilities, and taxation. Here are the highlights from the meeting
Development Permit Application 26/66 for the construction of a 40’ x 50’ personal-use shop was approved. The permit includes variances for building area, height, and setback requirements. Key conditions include compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, obtaining necessary permits, and ensuring utility lines are not disrupted during construction.
Ralston School’s proposal for an Educational Farm Program received approval under Development Permit Application 26/68. The program will include structures and livestock to support hands-on agricultural education. Conditions for approval include, but are not limited to, a two-year permit term with potential renewal, restrictions on livestock numbers, proper manure management and waste disposal, maintenance of fencing, and removal of livestock by October 31 annually. The program aims to provide students with practical farming experience while adhering to environmental and community standards.
Council approved a full roof replacement for the Schuler Rink Facility at an estimated cost of $194,277. The project will be funded through the Building Reserve Fund, ensuring the community continues to enjoy this recreational space.
In a move to gradually adjust the tax ratio, Council directed administration to implement annual increases of 0.25 increments over the next three years. Starting in 2027, the tax ratio will shift to 3.5:1, followed by 3.75:1 in 2028, and 4:1 in 2029. This phased approach aims to balance fiscal responsibility with community needs.
These decisions reflect Cypress County’s commitment to supporting local development, maintaining community infrastructure, and ensuring sustainable financial planning. For more details, visit the Cypress County website or contact the municipal office.
