Crib players from across Southern Alberta will soon have a reason to shuffle the cards, count their hands, and enjoy a little island spirit close to home. The Bow Island Golden Age Club is hosting an aloha-themed crib tournament on Thursday, May 28, and organizers say it promises to be a fun day for both seasoned players and those still learning the game.
The event will take place at the Golden Age Club, 206 5th Ave. East in Bow Island, with registration running from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and games beginning at 10 a.m. The cost is $40 per team, and the day includes lunch, 50/50, and cash prizes.
More than just a card tournament, the day is meant to bring people together. With its playful aloha theme, attendees are encouraged to add a little tropical flair by wearing Hawaiian shirts, leis, and even grass skirts.
According to the club, the tournament has become a draw for seniors from well beyond Bow Island.
“We expect to have about 80 people at this tournament,” noting that players often come from Lethbridge, Brooks, Taber, and other communities across southern Alberta.
The club wants the day to feel lighthearted as well as organized.
“It’s an aloha theme. Wear your grass skirts. We just want to have a little extra fun with that.”
The tournament format offers a full day of play. Organizers have planned 12 matches in total, with six games in the morning, followed by lunch, and then six more games in the afternoon.

The vendor application deadline is Monday at noon during the week of the market you’d like to attend.
