Medicine Hat College has announced that Reagan Weeks, superintendent of Prairie Rose Public Schools, will be recipient of its 2026 honourary applied baccalaureate degree at its upcoming convocation ceremonies.
“I’m deeply honoured to receive this recognition from Medicine Hat College, which played an important role in my own educational journey,” says Weeks.
The college says Weeks was chosen in recognition of her leadership in education and significant contributions to learners and communities.
“Dr. Reagan Weeks’ nomination highlighted her innovative approach and her commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for learner development,” said Sarah MacKenzie, chair of the MHC board of governors.
Weeks has spent more than two decades advancing education in school communities throughout her career. An MHC alumna, she later earned a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Business Administration and a Doctorate of Education.
Under her direction, PRPS has expanded dual-credit programming and introduced career-connected learning in areas such as trades, aviation and athletics, giving students hands-on experience and clearer pathways beyond high school.
“Her work has strengthened connections between K-12 and post-secondary education, and continues to make a lasting impact,” said MacKenzie.
Weeks also serves as a director with the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society and is involved in the Beej Project, designed to support learning and research opportunities while expanding access to local mental health resources.
“This honour reflects the collective efforts of educators, students and community partners who are committed to supporting learners and creating opportunities for success,” added Weeks.
The college’s Honourary Applied Degree recognizes individuals with strong community connections through a structured and confidential nomination and selection system.
Nominations are accepted from the community each January and are reviewed by the Honourary Applied Degree Awards Committee and the General Academic Council before being submitted to the board of governors.
The college will presents the degree at its annual convocation ceremony, June 12 at Co-op Place.
Last year MHC honoured Tigers bench boss and general manager Willie Desjardins following the team’s memorable WHL championship.
