It has come to our attention that there may be confusion on what is or isn’t allowed on the highways (roads) within 40 Mile Park. While it is the responsibility of every citizen to know and follow applicable legislation, this information is being provided to prevent park users from wasting money in acquiring prohibited modes of transportation and/or receiving a fine for their use within the park.
The Traffic Safety Act, RSA 2000, Chapter T-6, and its regulations are clear that the only authorized motorized transportation on roads within the park are those which can be registered for highway use, power assisted pedal bicycles, or golf carts operating under permit through the Pilot Project (Golf Cart) Bylaw. For clarity, all off-highway vehicles and prohibited miniature vehicles (any motorized vehicle which cannot be registered) may not be operated by anyone within the park without permit.
Some additional rules being enforced include:
—everyone riding a bicycle or power-assisted bicycle must be wearing a helmet
—anyone operating a permitted golf cart must have a valid driver’s license and be following the requirements associated with the license class and conditions
—every occupant of a permitted golf cart must be seated, and the number of occupants cannot exceed the number of seats the golf cart is designed to carry
—the speed limit in 40 Mile Park is 20 km/h
For more information relating to the use of motorized vehicles on roads within the park or throughout the County, contact the Municipal Enforcement Department at 403-867-0155 or enforcement@fortymile.ab.ca
