The Southern Alberta Summer Games are coming back to the area next year, as Redcliff will host alongside Cypress County.
The 2027 Games were originally slated to be hosted by Raymond, but the community has had to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances. The Town of Redcliff has approved the proposal to host the games next year, as they have the infrastructure and the facilities necessary, as well as support from local venues and community groups.
Cypress County council recently approved a contribution of 25 per cent of the costs associated with hosting the Games, up to $10,000.
It was noted Cypress and Redcliff athletes are considered as being from within the same region during the event, and this aligns well with ongoing regional promotion, as well as presenting an opportunity to showcase a recent brand change for Cypress County.
“I think it’s absolutely wonderful that we can partner with one of our regional municipalities with this,” said Coun. Michelle McKenzie.
A final amount to be contributed will be determined once sponsorships are confirmed, and if the sponsorships meet or exceed the need, the cost to the county would be zero.
