This year’s Jenner Rodeo takes place from July 3-5
Out on the wide-open prairie southeast of Brooks, a small community is gearing up for a very big birthday. The Jenner Rodeo is celebrating its 50th anniversary this July, and the milestone promises three days of roping, riding, and good old western fun. From July 3 to 5, 2026, the Jenner Rodeo Grounds will fill with the sound of thundering hooves, cheering crowds, and live music carried across the open fields.
For half a century, this event has brought together ranchers, families, and rodeo fans from across the region. If you’re putting together your summer plans, this one deserves a spot near the top of the list.
The action kicks off Friday, July 3, with the #10 Plus Team Roping Jackpot. It’s a high-pressure evening competition where ropers work in pairs and every second counts. As the sun dips low, the energy carries right into the night, with a Friday dance set to live music. Lace up your boots, because this crowd knows how to two-step.
Saturday, July 4, is the heart of the weekend. The Ranch Rodeo takes center stage, with teams competing in authentic ranching challenges that test real working skills. Spectators can also look forward to crowd favourites like tie-down roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing, and the always-entertaining wild cow milking. There’s added prize money on the line this year, along with championship buckles that competitors will be chasing hard.
Sunday, July 5, belongs to the next generation. The TRRC Little Britches Rodeo shines a light on young riders who are learning the ropes, quite literally. Events like pole bending, sheep riding, and calf wrestling make for a fun and inspiring close to the weekend. Watching these kids give it their all is a reminder of why this tradition has lasted 50 years.
Want to make a weekend of it? On-site camping is available, so you can park your rig, set up camp, and stay right in the middle of the excitement. Both Friday and Saturday nights feature beer gardens where neighbours and newcomers swap stories under the prairie sky. Hungry between events? Concession stands keep the food and treats coming all weekend long.
A few practical notes before you head out: this is a cash-only event, and there is no ATM or cell service at the grounds. Plan ahead, bring enough cash for the weekend, and let folks back home know you’ll be off the grid for a bit. Honestly, unplugging is half the charm.
The Jenner Rodeo Grounds sit near Halsbury, Alberta, an easy drive that rewards you with classic prairie scenery along the way. Whether you’re a lifelong rodeo fan or simply curious about western heritage, this golden anniversary is a wonderful way to experience it.
For full event details, you can visit the Canada’s Badlands event page or check the listing on Brooks Region Tourism. Both are great starting points as you map out your summer in the region.
Fifty years is a remarkable run for any community event. Come see what keeps people coming back, and be part of the celebration in Jenner this July.
