It was wins for both hometown teams over the weekend when Senator Gershaw held a round robin basketball tournament. With teams from Bow Island, Coaldale, Rosemary, and Coalhurst all competing, there were a few very close games being played.

With the boys’ team playing Rosemary in the final, coach Brad Reimer was expecting an even game.

“The games between these two are always close and both teams are going hard at it,” said Reimer.

While the lead yoyo-ed between the two throughout the game, it was the Gators who prevailed and won the gold medal.

Reimer was unsure how the tournament results would affect provincial rankings as Rosemary entered the tournament in first place throughout the province in 1A basketball and Senator Gershaw was ranked #4.

“They factor in different things, like the number of games played, but we could move to first place now,” he said.

Brenton Reimer, coach for the girls’ team said they went into the tournament in fifth position in the rankings and second in the south zone, with Stirling number one and Foremost in the third spot.
