Mayor Ernie Reimer said he was troubled to hear about the Redcliff Youth Centre’s difficult financial situation a few weeks back, but the Town is not committing to increased support for the Youth Centre as yet.
“The Town doesn’t have a whole lot to do with the Youth Centre, except we donate the $12,000 a year,” explained Reimer. “So I just remain hopeful they can get some funding. We have to wait and see. If they come, we will deal with it then. None of the board members have approached us on anything yet.”
Reimer acknowledged the increased stresses that Youth Centre has been under with donations on the decline and an increased need for its services among youth in the community.
“We’ll see how it’s going to unfold. When they first started that Youth Centre it was quite small, so they didn’t need much of a budget at that time. It’s kind of morphed into what it is now. So they’ll have to check (their budget and operations) and see how it fits into other pieces of the puzzle.”
Reimer said council is open to proposals brought forth from the Youth Centre, but would not commit to more than that at this time until the process moves further along.
“We will be listening,” promised Reimer.
