The Drop-in volleyball event is an institution in Redcliff.
Every Tuesday night for the last 40 years, Parkside School from October until March,a group of Redcliff citizens of all ages have been gathering for an hour of fun and camaraderie on the volleyball court. At 7 p.m. sharp the net goes up, the music is turned up and the group enjoys themselves singing and having friendly fun and laughter
“It’s a game for all ages and skill levels” said one of the players Sam Czember.
Czember along with Cindi Murray was one of the first to join the group when he was fifteen years old,
“ We have so much fun, just friendly games, and you get to meet new people,” he said.
“(Redcliff) Mayor Dwight Kilpatrick and his son have been coming for the last four years, we all have a good time.”
Organizer for the last eight years, Jeff Wilson, and his wife Janine have played for the last eight years.
“We just meet to have a little exercise and have fun,” said Wilson.
“We even had some ladies join us from a league in Medicine Hat. We don’t compete at all, its just really good fun, and something to do in the winter time.”
The Schools have a sharing agreement with the town so there is no cost to participants.
“We run it on our own, the town know that we are coming every year so its booked for us for the season. We break for Christmas and then start up again on the first Tuesday after (the)New Year, everybody is welcome to join us.”
If your New Years resolution includes getting fitter or if you just want an hour a week to de-stress and really have some fun, it’s thoroughly recommended to join this great group.
They enjoy the game, laugh a lot and have such a good time, you really should put it on your “must do in the New Year” list!
