Property taxes going up in Redcliff

Redcliff approves its 2015 budget with a raise in property taxes
During the Apr. 27 Redcliff council meeting, members approved the 2015 budget, which saw a rise in property taxes. The budget is set at $36,625,000 for the year with $17,423,000 set aside for operating and $2,352,000 for new tangible capital asset construction and purchase and $16,850,000 for the projects that were carried over from a year ago.
Despite the mill rate being down two per cent from 2014, residential property owners will be paying around three percent more in property taxes this year. Non-residential owners will be paying around 2 percent more.
The residential property in the town was assessed at a total of $471,561,320, which is up more than $25 million from 2013.
The average residential property was assessed at $229,400, with the estimated property tax, including school taxes, totaling at $1,752, which is up $55 from last year.
The average non-residential property was assessed at a value of $188,712,870,  which is down $7.1 million from 2013. The average property was assessed at $508,660, with the estimated total property tax at $8,377, which is up $180.
The deadline for the property tax payments is June 30.
