On September 21 Alberta will recognize the incredible work of its 292 Agricultural Societies, which play an essential role in fostering community spirit across the province. These societies are the backbone of countless fairs, events, and community initiatives, and this special day is an opportunity for the public to celebrate their contributions.
Agricultural Societies are volunteer-led organizations committed to improving the quality of life in Alberta’s communities. They are the driving force behind local fairs, farmers’ markets, rodeos, and more, all of which bring people together and highlight Alberta’s rich agricultural heritage. In addition to these events, they provide crucial community services, such as hosting facilities that serve as gathering places and providing support during emergencies.
Have you attended a small-town fair lately? Chances are, it was made possible by your local Agricultural Society! From planning family-friendly activities to supporting local initiatives, Agricultural Societies work behind the scenes to create vibrant, connected communities. They have been quietly working behind the scenes for over a century, organizing the events that make our small towns and rural areas thrive. By recognizing Agricultural Society Day, we are shining a spotlight on their hard work and dedication. This day is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the vital role they play in building strong, connected communities and to inspire others to get involved.
Attend Local Events: Agricultural Societies across Alberta will be hosting community dinners, fairs, and gatherings to celebrate their volunteers and members.
