When the subdivision of Desert Blume was built, developers put up a solid fence on the north and east sides, as well as other wood rail fences.
At their March 25 regular board meeting, Cypress County council addressed the issue of having the fencing insured.
“We do not have this kind of infrastructure anywhere else. Should we insure them?” asked Doug Henderson, Cypress County assistant manager.
Brick fencing borders South Boundary Road and Range Road 61A, north of the Desert Blume gate, while concrete fence lines south of Clubhouse Drive and wood rail fencing runs along other portions of the subdivision.
Henderson told council there would be a $5,000 deductible for the insurance that could provide coverage for vandalism or motor vehicle collisions.
By comparison, councilor Dustin Vossler said when there was vandalism to the Seven Persons Hall, it had a $30,000 price tag to repair.
Council elected in a vote of 5-3 to purchase insurance for the brick and concrete fence, but not the wooden ones.
