Two Medicine Hat residents face charges after officers found a stolen vehicle from Redcliff parked in an alley behind a closed business, the Medicine Hat Police Service says.

MHPS said officers were on proactive patrol in the city’s Light Industrial area at about 2:30 a.m. on May 13 when they noticed a suspicious vehicle. Two people were getting out of it as officers approached.

Police identified the driver as a 39-year-old man and the passenger as a 31-year-old woman, the release said. Officers then determined the vehicle had been reported as stolen from a business in Redcliff. Both were taken into custody without incident.

Darryl Paul, 39, of Medicine Hat has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, breach of probation and four counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and remanded into custody pending his next court appearance.

Tiffany Peters, 31, also of Medicine Hat, has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. She was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court June 24.

MHPS says patrols were in response to a recent rise in property crime in the area. The arrest comes one week after MHPS charged two other local men in connection with a truck and trailer reported stolen from the 1000 block of Ross Glen Drive on May 6.
