June 2026 has arrived and marks the official start of Filipino Heritage Month across the country with this year’s events being spearheaded by Lethbridge’s own councillor, Rufa Doria.

The Filipino Canadian Association of Lethbridge Alberta (FCALA) for its sixth year alongside their community members joined at Lethbridge City Hall to raise the Philippine national flag on June 12, 2026. This annual tradition not only celebrates and honours their heritage, but also serves as the precursor and an open invitation to all for the FCALA’s upcoming events.

The Lethbridge Filipino Heritage Festival is scheduled to take place at Henderson Lake on July 4-5, showcasing the rich cultures of the Philippines in Lethbridge and Southern Alberta. Following the raising of the flag, Councillor Doria addressed the group with a brief message reflecting on her initial eight months in office.

Alongside being a consistent and engaged participant in City Council meetings and decision-making sessions, Councillor Doria has been an active member of the Community Issues Committee (CIC). The primary objective of this committee is to address the concerns affecting the quality of life for residents, encompassing areas such as public safety, housing, social support, and various municipal programs among others.

Furthermore, Councillor Doria has represented the council as a Board of Director member with the Green Acres Foundation, where she has been involved in discussions related to senior housing and community welfare development. Councillor Doria wishes to convey the following message: “As I continue my term as Council, I remain committed to supporting responsible financial management, encouraging economic growth and business development, strengthening community services and public safety. I promise to continue promoting inclusion, diversity and an advocate for community engagement. Thank you all for your trust and support.”

In attendance was Councillor Rajko Dodic, who currently serves as the deputy mayor of Lethbridge. Finally, Vic Lester Visitacion, who is the president of FCALA, has graciously invited the public to participate with their 6th Filipino Heritage Festival, taking place in less than two weeks.
