Facebook, Twitter, and all online articles have been ranting and raving over the events of the past couple of weeks on sexual abuse and a celebrity none would have every thought would be associated to any form of this negativity. Jian Ghomeshi, an incredible talent serving CBC for many, many years with his infamous talk show Q. Celebrities and people around Canada felt at home with him for several years with his soft tone and intellectual way of interviewing, making that connection with everyone that walked into the studio.

It was just in recent weeks where it was announced that he had been fired by the CBC and would be taking his leave. Not only the mention of being fired but his long and very descriptive Facebook post after the news leaked everywhere, did people begin to feel bad for him. The Internet went crazy, saying they were sorry to hear the sad news of this incredible man leaving the company he had worked for and had been loyal to for so long. His detailed message to his fans also had people stumped for thoughts on why this talent could have possibly been fired for his personal life. Well, a couple days later, a sickening turn began to creep in for his biggest fans that are still left shocked and asking questions.

Days after his last message, a few women came forward who were involved with Ghomeshi on a personal level. They admit to being choked, slapped across the face and other violence when with him. This is a huge shock and is disappointing to those who have been following along with his show for many years. He later sent out a new message after these women came forward saying, “I want to thank you for your support and assure you that I intend to meet these allegations directly. I don’t intend to discuss this matter any further with the media.” This is when the comments on social media became angry with people quickly regretting their apologies to Ghomeshi. Celebrities also reacted with the singer Lights apologizing to her fans saying that she will be parting ways with Ghomeshi as her manager. She said, “I posted comments about Jian Ghomeshi the day after he was dismissed by the CBC where I rushed to defend my manager of 12 years. I am now aware that my comments appear insensitive to those impacted and for that I am deeply sorry. This is to confirm that as of now I will be parting ways with Jian Ghomeshi as my manager. I hope everyone can heal from this.” It’s disappointing because Ghomeshi has been loyal to many celebrities and has established big trust with his fans.

This news has had social media go on a crazy rollercoaster, as and no one knows what will happen, but a lot of people have been giving their opinions as to what this man is said to have done. He will no longer be known as Qtv’s superstar, but a man that has been fired from a reputable company who may have sexually abused women, making his biggest fans crushed. Did he sexually abuse women or is he guilty? As we wait, it is important to understand that no consent, especially in the bedroom, means no. Sexual abuse is a huge issue and must not be taken lightly.
