Redcliff looking for family physician

Redcliff is in the midst of putting together a committee that will focus on getting a new family physician for the community.

Mayor, Ernie Reimer said while the committee is not yet formed, they have been working with neighbouring municipalities such as Medicine Hat and Cypress County to bring a doctor to town.

“We have a lot of seniors here in town and it is often hard for them to get into Medicine Hat,” said Reimer, who added that they are also talking with the City in providing public transportation between the two communities.

Broadway Medical Arts Centre has been sitting empty for several years and would be an ideal location for a family practice. In the past, however, some potential physicians have indicated the building is too small. Years ago, it housed two and three doctors’ practices.

“The size has been a concern, “ said Reimer. “However, the owners are willing to expand the building and are anxious to work with a doctor. We have been without a doctor in town now for six to eight years and having one would definitely benefit our elderly folks.”
