When you look into the face of a child, what do you see? Curiosity? Promise? Love? Kindness? How often do you see brain tumour? I hope never. But if you have, you know the devastating toll it can take on a family; emotionally, and financially.

I am writing today to tell you about a beautiful, kind, curious, selfless seven-year old girl named Miley, from Bow Island, Alberta. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which was intertwined on her brainstem and nerves. Two years ago, she had surgery and radiation. She has come a long way since then, but still requires a lot of medical interventions, and therapy.

On Monday, August 25, 2014, the family was notified that the tumour has started growing again. This means more stays at the Children’s Hospital in Calgary, another surgery, more radiation and possibly Chemotherapy. It also means unknown expenses, and untold stressors; on her family, her parents, younger brother and on a seven-year old girl.

Our hope is to alleviate some of the stress with a fundraiser called “Miley’s Day” taking place on October 25, 2014. There will be three events occurring throughout the day.

The day will start with a fun run/walk starting at 10:00 a.m. at the gazebo at Centennial park. We will be running/walking south of town with options of 1km, 3km, 5km, or 10km. There will be complimentary massages following the race; however donations to the family would be accepted.

Registration forms are available on “Miley’s Day” Facebook page. The registration deadline is October 10, 2014 (to guarantee your t-shirt size); however donations/registration will be accepted until the race begins! The cost of this will be $20.00 per person or $10.00 for kids 10 years old and under.

At 4:30 p.m., the doors to Burdett Hall will open for the dinner which will start at 5:00 p.m. We will be having pulled pork sandwiches on a Kaiser bun, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans and dessert. Two hundred tickets are available for purchase at $15.00 per person, kids two and under are free. You can pick up tickets through a committee member or at Bow Island Elementary School.

The last event is a Silent and Live Auction, taking place at the Burdett Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the live auction starting at 7:00 p.m. This event is open to the public.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Miley’s Day Fundraising Committee
