Edna Martin, who was unable to attend the Redcliff appreciation awards night, was still given her volunteer of the year award for her work for the Redcliff Scout and Guide Building Association. She also received another recognition award for over 35 years of volunteer service to the association for her outstanding service to have the Redcliff Baden Powell Centre in Redcliff developed.
Martin was a girl guide from the time she was 18 years old, and she was a leader and one of the one’s that helped to fundraise to build the Baden Powell Centre. The Scout and Guide Building Association was formed a few years later to run the building and she’s been on the committee ever since.
“In my opinion what makes her such a great volunteer is that she does what she says she’s going to do. She’s been on the board, she’s done the booking for the last at least 20 years doing all the bookings, check ins and check outs and she’s done janitor for us for the last few years for nothing,” said Sheila Donais, treasurer of the Baden Powell Centre.
They wanted to give her another award on top of her volunteer of the year, as she has done a lot of work and deserves to be recognized.
“A card just didn’t seem quite enough,” said Donais.
“Everybody appreciates her and thanks her for every minute that she donated.”
Martin is 82 years old and resigned from her position about a month ago.
