HALO gets boost at AAMD

Posted on March 22, 2016 by 40 Mile Commentator

HALO’s efforts to receive provincial government funding got a boost at the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts (AAMD) spring convention on March 16. Cypress County sponsored a resolution to have HALO and other regional medi-evac services receive similar levels of funding to STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescur Society), the only organization in province which currently does receive direct government funding. The resolution was presented to AAMD members by Coun. Garry Lentz, and was adopted as a resolution by the majority of those at the convention, with 64.8 per cent voting in favour. There are hundreds of resolutions proposed by various municipalities each year, but only a handful receive majority support at the AAMD.
While non-binding on the government, resolutions adopted at the AAMD annual convention tend to have greater weight than those passed by individual jurisdictions. Here is a copy of the actual resolution:
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties request that the Government of Alberta provide funds to local and regionally operated emergency response air ambulance services at the same ratio as Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) funding.
