Cypress County fire chief Kelly Meyer down graded the fire ban to a fire restriction on Sept. 17.
A fire restriction is in affect because of the high fuel load still laying around from last year and the unpredictable weather patterns that the county has been experiencing.
If a person sets an open fire that is not allowed under this order could be charged under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act and Cypress County’s Bylaw 2008/14. Additionally, if the person is the owner or occupant of the land on which the fire is set, then those costs may be recovered by placing the costs on the tax roll and recovering them in the same manner as taxes.
